Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Members of the Montan waxes category were tested in concentrations far above their water solubility. No effects were observed in all test systems:

Short-term toxicity fish (montan waxes, type E): > 10000 mg/l

Short-term toxicity daphnia (montan waxes, type E): EC50 > 10000 mg/l

Algae toxicity (montan waxes, type S and OP): EC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/l, (type E): EC50 (72h) > 320 mg/l

Activated sludge respiration inhibition (montan waxes, type S, E and OP): EC50 > 10000 mg/l

Long-term reproduction daphnia (montan waxes, type S): NOAEC = 100 mg/l

Short-term toxicity earthworm (montan waxes, type OP): NOAEC (14d, mortality, behaviour, body weight) = 1000 mg/kg soil dw

Reproduction test earthworm (montan waxes, type OP): NOAEC = 1000 mg/kg soil dw

Consequently, no reliable LOEC, NOEC, or ECx - value can be calculated. Since this data is a prerequisite to estimate a PNEC it is not possible to derive such values.

Conclusion on classification

No toxicity to aquatic or soil organisms was detected in any of the available studies. Hence, no environmental classification is required.
