Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

This Chemical Safety Report characterizes the hazards and risks associated with the use of NPEO,a non-ionic surfactant belonging to a larger group of compounds called alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs).

Data for the UVCB NPEO is available for certain but not all environmental fate endpoints. To address the remaining information requirements, results from other nonylphenol (NP) homologues was used. These include:

  • Nonylphenol (NP)
  • Nonylphenol 1.5 ethoxylate (NPE-1.5)
  • Nonylphenol 2 ethoxylate (NPE-2)
  • Nonylphenol 9 ethoxylate (NPE-9) and
  • Nonylphenol 18 ethoxylate (NPE-18)

The use of data on NPE homologues with various degrees of ethoxylation to assess the environmental fate of NPEO is justified due to their structural similarities, common functional groups and comparable degradation pathway. Also, there areincremental and constant change across the homologues relating to the physical-chemical, environmental fate, ecotoxicological and toxicological properties.

A more detailed read-across justification is attached to Chapter 13 of the IUCLID file.
