Duration of exposure:
24 hours
Doses:
1.26, 0.63, and 0.315 ml/kg

Details on study design:
Undiluted vinyltrichlorosilane was applied to the skin of three groups of male rabbits (5/group at the two highest doses; 4/group at lowest dose) of doses of 1.26, 0.63 and 0.315 g/kg. The contact period was 24 hours under an occlusive "Vinylite" sheeting.  Clinical signs of toxicity and body weight change were recorded over a 14 day period.
Statistics:
Calculation of R.F. LD50 was done by the method of Thompson.

Results and discussion

Effect levels
Sex:
male
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Effect level:
0.68 mL/kg bw
95% CL:
0.48 - 0.94
Gross pathology:
This compound is so corrosive on rabbit skin that perforation of the abdominal wall occurs with dosages of 0.316 ml/kg and greater.
