Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Not readily biodegradable: 54% (CO2 Evolution Test) after 28 d (OECD 301B)
No ultimate inherent biodegradation: 69% (O2 consumption) after 28 d (OECD 302C)
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Biodegradation in water:
- inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria
Additional information
One study investigating the ready biodegradability of didocosyl sebacate (CAS 42233-75-0) is available (Clarke, 2012). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline 301 B under GLP conditions. The inoculum (non-adapted activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant) was exposed for 28 days to the test substance and biodegradation calculated based on CO2 evolution. At the end of the experiment, the substance reached a biodegradation of 54% and therefore, does not meet the criterion to be considered readily biodegradable (> 60% after 28 days). In addition, other supporting study (Liu, 2014) investigating the inherent biodegradation of test substance shows 69% (O2 consumption) after 28 d (OECD 302 C). Therefore, based on the results, didocosyl sebacate (CAS 42233-75-0) can be regarded as not readily biodegradable and not inherently biodegradable fulfilling specific criteria.
