Description of key information

Two studies regarding skin irritation of the test item Isophorone nitrile were conducted in rabbits. According to the outcome of both studies it has to be concluded that the test item Isophorone nitrile is not irritant to the skin. Two studies regarding eye irritation of the test item Isophorone nitrile were conducted in rabbits (Asta, 1990; Hüls AG, 1985).According to the outcome of both studies it has to be concluded that the test item Isophorone nitrile is not irritant to eyes.

Additional information

Studies in animals:

Skin irritation

Two studies regarding skin irritation of the test item Isophorone nitrile were conducted in rabbits (Asta, 1990; Hüls AG, 1985). Altrough both studies have the same reliability and leading to the same conclusions, the newer study (Asta, 1990) was choosen to be the key study because this study was performed under GLP conditions. According to the outcome of both studies it has to be concluded that the test item Isophorone nitrile is not irritant to the skin.

Eye irritation

Two studies regarding eye irritation of the test item Isophorone nitrile were conducted in rabbits (Asta, 1990; Hüls AG, 1985). Altrough both studies have the same reliability and leading to the same conclusions, the newer study (Asta, 1990) was choosen to be the key study because this study was performed under GLP conditions. According to the outcome of both studies it has to be concluded that the test item Isophorone nitrile is not irritant to eyes.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Regarding irritant properties to skin and eyes the substance 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexanone (Isophorone nitrile) is not classified according to the criteria of EC Directive 67/548/EEC.
