Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods

Description of key information

The acute toxicity of the test sustance to the earthworms (Eisenia foetida) was determined according to OECD-Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 207 (1992) at Laboratory of Ecotoxicity & Environmental Safety, Guangdong Detection Center of Microbiology,1/F, 59th Building, 100 Central Xian Lie Road, Guangzhou, China.

The artificial soil test involves keeping earthworms in samples of a precisely defined artificial soil to which a limit concentration of the test substance has been applied. The chosen test concentration was 1000 mg/kg dw. Mortality is assessed 7 and 14 days after application. Then the acute toxicity of the test substance is determined by the results of the mortality.

The results demonstrate that the mortalities in the blank controls and the solvent group were 0%, which did not exceed 10% at the end of the test and fulfilled the criteria for a valid test. The mortality in the test group was 0%. No obvious physical or pathological symptoms or distinct changes in behaviour were observed in the test organisms on 7th day and 14th day. Under the conditions of the present test, the 14d-LC50 of the test substance to earthworm was >1000mg/kg dw.
