Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 yr
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The hydrolysis of the Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C20-24 (even)-sec-alkyl derivs., para-, sodium salts (generic name: C20-24 sodium sulfonate) has been determined according to a procedure compatible with OECD Guideline 111 and EU Method C.7 in compliance with GLP (Fox, 2015a). Based on the Critical Micelle Concentration of the substance (10 mg/L; please refer to Fox, 2015c), a test concentration of 2 mg/L was chosen (less than half the approximate water solubility of the test item). This was also significantly below 0.01M.

The hydrolysis of the substance was investigated for pH 4, 7 and 9 at 50 °C for a total test duration of 145.75 h. HPLC-MS has been used as analytical method. Test concentrations were determined after 0, 24, 120 and 145.75 h based on absolute standard concentrations. Overall the results demonstrated that the test item was hydrolytically stable for greater than a year at 25 °C at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9. Less than 10 % hydrolysis occurred after 5 days at the indicated pH values, respectively.
