Description of key information

Two 96-hour acute toxicity tests with exposure of diethylbenzene to rainbow trout and fathead minnow were available. Endpoints
reported for static exposures were approx 26 mg/L, while a flow-through study determined a 96-hour LC50 value of 0.673 mg a.i./L.

Additional information

A flow-through acute toxicity test was conducted with rainbow trout exposed to a 92.3% blend of diethylbenzene. Three separate 410 ml samples were combined to form the blended dosing stock and matrix spiking solutions. This study was rated a Klimisch score of 1, followed OECD 203 and was chosen as the key study. Based on the mean measured concentrations of the diethylbenzene blend, the 96-hour LC50 value was 0.673 mg a.i./L. The 96-hour NOEC was estimated to be <0.308 mg a.i./L. An additional supporting study, rated a Klimisch score of 2, reported exposure of fathead minnows to diethylbenzene with a resulting 96-hour LC50 value of 26 mg/L/.
