Additional information

Ethanethiol is not readily biodegradable, with no biodegradation observed in 29 days (Clarke 2011). With a reported logKow of 1.5, ethanethiol is not expected to bioaccumulate or adsorb to suspended solids and sediment in water. Ethanethiol is not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment due to a lack of functional groups, but is expected to degrade abiotically in the atmosphere through photolysis with OH radicals with a half-life of 0.36 days.

A calculated Henry’s Law Constant of 544 Pa.m3.mol-1at 25°C indicates that the substance has the potential to volatilise rapidly from surface water. [Calculated in EUSES v2.1.2 based on molecular weight = 62.13 g/mol; vapour pressure = 58.9 kPa at 20°C; water solubility = 8860 mg/l at 20°C]
