Details on results:
At the beginning of the test and after 24 + 48 h, the immobility of the Daphnia used is reduced. The animals are considered to be buoyant after a light swim Do not bump into the test vessel to show any more swimming movements.
Reported statistics and error estimates:
To determine the EC 50 after 24 h, the probit method according to Finney was used.
To determine the EC 50 after 48 h, moving average - method applied.
The EC0 was the highest concentration tested at which an effect of 10% occurred.
EC100 was the lowest tested concentration at 100% effect occurred.

Executive summary:

Short term toxicity study to Daphnia magna for carried out for 48 hrs according to the OECD guideline. The study was based on the effects of the test compound 4 -amino-N-(4 -aminophenyl)benzene-1 -sulfonamide(CAS no. 16803 -97 -7) on Daphnia magnain a static fresh water system at a temperature of 292 -294 K, pH range 7.7 – 8.3, hardness of water was 2.70 ± 0.50 mmol/l and oxygen content was > 2 mg/l, respectively. Daphnia magna Straus of 6 -24 h old was used as a test organism obtained from the Institute National Research Chemical Applied, France. Test animals were fed bewer’s yeast 1X every day green algae culture. The concentration of the substance in the stock was 500 mg/l. No. of organisms used per vessel was 5 and total no. of organisms/conc. were 20, respectively. The test was performed in 4 repilcates with a light intensity of 16: 8 hours Day : Night. Floatable animals i.e mobility of the test animal was measured after a period of 24 and 48 hours.EC50 after 24 and 48 hrs was determined using the statistical probit and moving average method. At the beginning of the test and after 24 + 48 h, the immobility of the Daphnia used is reduced.
