Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200

Description of key information

Except for its two unsaturated C=C double bond (not positioned as 1,2-diene) the test substance does not contain chemical groups indicating explosive properties. The heat of decomposition (in the temperature range up to 400°C) was determined and corresponds to -300 J/g and therefore above the minimum value of - >500 J/g for potentially explosive materials. The calculated oxygen balance (OB) for the test substance is OB = -266 and therefore below the limit value of OB = - 200 for potentially explosive materials. Thus it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that the test substance is not a potential explosive and does not have a potential for rapid energy release.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance is not to be classified as explosive liquid according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
