Study design

Oxygen conditions:
aerobic
Inoculum or test system:
sewage, domestic (adaptation not specified)
Details on inoculum:
Samples of secondary effluent were obtained as the test inoculum from a sewage plant treating predominantly domestic sewage (Nanjing Chengdong Sewage Treatment Plant) Aerobic conditions were maintained in the effluent by aeration from a laboratory supply of oil-free compressed air. (Batch No: 120120920) On the day of the test, the test inoculum was prepared by filtering the sample of sewage effluent through a coarse rilter. (discarding the first 200 mL) and collecting the remaining filtrates. This inoculum was maintained under aerobic conditions in the test area until use.
Duration of test (contact time):

Results and discussion

% Degradation
Key result
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
ca. 1.41
Sampling time:
28 d
Details on results:
During the test, the temperature was kept between 19.6°C to 21.9°C. The test is valid because the biodegradation of the reference substance achieved 71.9% within 14 days, which was great than 60%, and biodegradation of the toxicity control was 26.7% within 14 days, which was great than 25%. The test substance did not inhibit the degradation of the reference substance and was therefore not toxic to the inoculum. Oxygen consumption in inoculum blanks was 1.21 mg O2/litre after 28-day test, which was less than 1.5 mg O2/L. Oxygen concentration in "test' was 7.41 mg O2/L after 28-day test, which was great than 0.5 mg O2/L. Therefore the test would be considered valid.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
not readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
The result indicated the biodegradation rate of the test substance was 1.41% after 28 days, which indicated that Addukt TI80-MXDA is not readily biodegradable.
Executive summary:

The study was conducted according to the guidelines of SEPA HJ/T 153, "the guidelinesfor the testing of chemicals"; and with the reference to Part C.4-E (Closed Bottle Test) of EC Methods for the Determination of Ecotoxicity; Annex to Council Regulation (EC), L142 (2008); OECD Procedure 301D; Closed Bottle test and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances, (OPPTS) Method 835.3110 (o), adopted January 1998; GB/T 21831-2008, Chemicals-Ready biodegradability; Closed bottle test. Under valid conditions, the ready biodegradability of Addukt TI80-MXDA was determined in a 28-day dissolve oxygen depletion using secondary effluent from a domestic waste water treatment plant.

During the test, the temperature was kept at (202) °C. The test is valid because the level of biodegradation of the reference substance reached 71.9% within 14 days, which was great than 60%, and biodegradation of the toxicity control was 26.9% within 14 days, which was great than 25%. The test substance did not inhibit the degradation of the reference substance and was therefore not toxic to the inoculum. Oxygen consumption in inoculum blanks was 1.21 mg O2/litre after 28-day test, which was less than 1.5 mg O2/L.

Oxygen concentration in "test" was 7.41 mg O2/L after 28-day test, which was great than 0.5 mg O2/L. Thus the study met the acceptability criteria prescribed by the protocol and was considered valid.

Finally the results showed that under valid conditions, the biodegradation rate of Addukt TI80-MXDA was 1.41% biodegradation after 28-days.
