Key value for chemical safety assessment

Genetic toxicity in vitro

Description of key information

A valid Ames test and a chromosome aberration test (CA) in combination with a sister chromatid exchange test (SCE) are available for tetrachlorophthalic anhydride.
Additional a valid HPRT test with phthalic anhydride (as a surrogate for tetrachlorophthatlic anhydride) is available.

Genetic toxicity in vivo

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (negative)

Additional information

The Ames test and the combined CA and SCE test were negative.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the negative results of the available assays tetrachlorophthalic anhydride is regarded as non-mutagenic. A classification is therefore not justified.
