Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
O2 consumption
Details on study design:
The test item p-CPK-Nitrile was investigated for its ready biodegradability in a manometric respirometry test over a period of 28 days. The biodegradation was followed by the oxygen uptake of the microorganisms during exposure. As a reference item sodium benzoate was tested simultaneously under the same conditions as the test item, and functioned as a procedure control.
Test conditions: 22°C, darkness, climatised chamber, pH of 7.6-7.7 (test start) and 7.6-8.3 (test end)
Reference substance
Reference substance:
benzoic acid, sodium salt

Results and discussion

% Degradation
Key result
Parameter:
% degradation (O2 consumption)
Value:
ca. 0
Sampling time:
28 d
Details on results:
The degradation rate of p-CPK-Nitrile was 0% after 28 days (ThOD(NH4), ThOD(NO3)). Therefore, the substance is considered to be not readily biodegradable.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
not readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
Based on the experimental results, p-CPK-Nitrile is considered to be not readily biodegradable.
