The substance will dissociate to sodium and carbonate ions. These are common constituents of plants, soil and occur naturally in water at high concentrations. These ions are important in physiology of plants and animals. In their water soluble forms, these ions will be highly mobile in soils, but most sodium and carbonate is bound in soild (eg limestone, calcium carbonate)
