Conclusion on classification

One key acute study is available for the three trophic levels (i.e. fish, daphnia and algae). The most sensitive species in the acute test was found to be Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata with a 72h ErC50 = 2.9 mg/L based on growth rate inhibition.

Chronic data are available for daphnia and algae, with both EC10 comprised between 0.1 and 1 mg/L. In addition, heptanal is readily biodegradable and not considered as bioaccumulable. Based on these data, heptanal should be classified according to regulation EC 1272/2008 as H412, harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
