Description of key information

Methyl myristate (CAS 124-10-7) is readily biodegradable.

One study, investigating the ready biodegradability of methyl palmitate (CAS 112-39-0), was used as read across for methyl myristate (CAS 124-10-7). This substance is structurally and compositionally related to methyl myristate. In this GLP-study (Börner, 1994) according to ISO Draft (BOD Test for Insoluble Substances) activated sludge (domestic) was used as inoculum. At test termination after 28 days Börner observed a degradation of 75% and 2 of the replicates reached the 14 -day-window. One replicate (35% degradation after 14 days) was disregarded, as the difference of this replicate value was more than 20% in comparison to both other replicate values at all sampling days (14, 18 and 28 days). Therewith the read across-substance is readily biodegradable. Methyl palmitate exhibit a longer chain length as methyl myristate and substances with longer chain length degraded more moderate as substances with shorter chain length. Thus, based on this extrapolation it can be concluded that methyl myristate (CAS 124-10-7) is also readily biodegradable.
