Description of key information

The toxicity of the test itemto the unicellular freshwater green algaPseudokirchneriella subcapitatawas determined according to the principles of OECD 201 andCouncil Regulation (EC) No. 761/2009/Method C.3 from 2016-09-26 to2016-10-20, with the definitive exposure phase from 2017-10-17 to 2017-10-20at the test facility. The aim of the study was to assess the effects on growth rate and yield over a period of 72 hours.

The study was conducted under static conditions with an initial cell density of 6305 cells/mL. A stock solutionwith a nominal loading of 200.4 mg test item/L, corresponding to 100 mg active ingredient/L, was tested. Six replicates were used for the limit concentration and the control. The environmental conditions were within the acceptable limits. The concentrations of the test item were analytically verified by LC-MS/MS at the start and the end of exposure of the limit concentration and the control. The measured concentration of the test item in the fresh media (0 h) were 113% of the nominal values at the limit concentration level. The measured concentrations in the old media (72 h) were 105% of the nominal values.

Therefore, all effect values given are based on the nominal active ingredient concentration of the test item. The validity criteria of the test guideline were fulfilled

Conclusion

The nominal active ingredient EC50-values for inhibition of growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 hours were >100 mg/L. The nominal active ingredient NOEC-values for inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

ECr50 > 100 mg/L (active ingredient)
