Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Category approach and environmental fate assessment

The substance being Registered in this particular dossier is one of a series of chemically similar materials each of which is composed of a closely related series of alkylated phenol species. For further details on the Category, see section 13.

The physico-chemical data indicate that the category members demonstrate a predictable similarity with minor changes to absolute values as one goes from lower molecular weight to higher molecular weight in the category. Substances in this category are not flammable, not volatile, not reactive and have very limited water solubility. All category members have a low vapour pressure indicating that they will not partition readily to air. Based on the physico-chemical properties of low water solubility and high octanol-water partition coefficient, these substances are likely to partition largely to sediment and suspended solids in the aquatic environment, and the data which exist for BCF derivations indicates that they have a low potential for absorption across the skin into the systemic circulation of vertebrates. They do not readily biodegrade under test conditions, however based on their structures it is likely that there may be some inherent biodegradation under normal environmental conditions.
