Description of key information

Butyl ethyl ether is a category 2 flammable organic liquid (according to the ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance; Version 5.0). The classification is based on the flash point (4 °C) and the boiling point (92.3 °C) of the substance. Additionally, butyl ethyl ether undergoes self-ignition at 180 °C and freezes at -124 °C. The organic liquid has a density of approximately 0.75 g/cm³ at 20 °C and a vapour pressure of 100 kPa at 91 °C (10 kPa at 31 °C). The substance is soluble in water (approximately 2.9 g/L at 20 °C) but with a log Pow value of 2.03 tends to be more soluble in the organic phase (octanol).
