Additional information

The PNEC derivation was as follows justified:

PNEC freshwater sediment:

K_(susp-water) = 1.85

RHO_(susp) = 1150

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 4.6

PNEC_freshwater sediment

= (K_(susp-water)/ RHO_(susp))*PNEC_water * 1000

= (1.85/1150)*0.004*1000

= 0.0064 mg/kg wwt

= 0.03 mg/kg dw

PNEC marine water sediment:

K_(susp-water) = 1.85

RHO_(susp) = 1150

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 4.6

PNEC_marine water sediment

= (K_(susp-water)/ RHO_(susp))*PNEC_marine water* 1000

= (1.85/1150)* 0.0004 * 1000

= 0.00064 mg/kg wwt

= 0.003 mg/kg dw

PNEC soil:

K_(soil-water) = 1.34

RHO_(soil) = 1700

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 1.13

PNEC_soil

= (K_(soil-water)/ RHO_(soil))*PNEC_water* 1000

= (1.34/1700)* 0.004 * 1000

= 0.0031 mg/kg wwt

= 0.0035 mg/kg dw

Conclusion on classification

Aquatic acute toxicity

96 h, LC50 (Danio rerio): 39.6 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentration)

48 h, EC50 (Daphnia magna): 4.31 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentration)

72 h, ErC50 (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata): 6.4 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentration)

Aquatic chronic toxicity

72 h, EC10 (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata): 2.6 mg/L (geometric mean measured concentration)

Biodegradation: not biodegradable: 4 % after 28 days (% degradation O2 consumption, OECD 301 D)

Partition coefficient: log Kow = 1.6  at 25 °C, log Koc = 1.5 at 25 °C

Classification according to CLP

The available experimental test data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. The test substance was found to be not biodegradable under the test conditions.

The most sensitive test for the aquatic compartment was the toxicity test to aquatic invertebrates. This study revealed a 48 h- EC50 of 4.31 mg/L. Based on these data, the substance has not to be classified with regard to acute environmental toxicity according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), but the substance is classified as acute aquatic cat. 2 according to GHS.

For the long term toxicity test of algae an EC10 value of 2.6 mg/L was measured. As the test item is not readily biodegradable, the substance is therefore classified as chronic aquatic cat. 2 (H411: Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP/GHS).
