Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2016-04-22
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Justification for type of information:
The method used is a very basic method to check clarity. See test method description below.
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
According to in-house method QCM 120

Scope:
This procedure is used to qualify the clarity or appearance of solid and liquid raw materials and finished products.
Apparatus:
Whatman #4 filter paper or equivalent (size will depend upon funnel if vacuum filtering)
Ultrasonic bath
Forced fan oven or Heat-Lamp
Reagents:
Acetone (reagent grade)
Procedure:
1. Remove any air bubbles by heating for 1-2 minutes or sonicating. Clean the outside of the jar with acetone.
2. Inspect the entire sample (some particulates can float or settle with time). Gently mix the sample, taking note of any “swirls” of material at the bottom.
3. If doubt persists, filter a portion of the sample and take note of any discoloration or particles on the paper. Another option is to peer through the sample when the jar is placed over a document. The writing should NOT appear fuzzy.
GLP compliance:
no
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid
Key result
Form:
liquid: viscous
Remarks:
20°C / 101.3kPa
Colour:
Clear
Substance type:
organic
Conclusions:
The test items were clear liquids
Executive summary:

The substance was inspected visually and is a clear viscous liquid at standard temperature and pressure, at 20°C and 101,3kPa.
