TEST SYSTEM
Stock solutions were made in ultrapure water.
One part of the stock solutions was diluted according to the table below and inoculated with the algal suspension.
The second part was diluted equivalent to the test solution the algal suspension being replaced by a 1:10 diluted intermediate dilution blank.
These blanks were incubated under the same conditions under constant light as the test solution to be tested.
The measured turbidityin those test solution was subtracted from those with the algal inoculation. In the same way, seven control solutions without any test substance but with algal inoculation were prepared as well as one test solution without any test substance and without algal inoculation.

Executive summary:

The chronic toxicity of the subtance towads algae was tested according to OECD Guideline 201. The toxic effect was investigated by determination of the inhibition of the biomass production and the growth rate of the algae after an exposure period of 72 h. Under the conditions being tested the NOEC (no observed effect concentration) was determined as being 3.2 mg/L for biomass production and 4.9 mg/L for the growth rate. The inhibition of the growth rate to 50% (ErC50) was calculated as being 410mg/L and EbC50 as being 22 mg/L.

Description of key information

The chronic toxicity of the subtance towads algae was tested according to OECD Guideline 201. The toxic effect was investigated by determination of the inhibition of the biomass production and the growth rate of the algae after an exposure period of 72 h.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
410 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
4.9 mg/L

Additional information

Under the conditions of the test the following results were determined:

NOEC (biomass): 3.2 mg/l

NOEC (growth rate): 4.9 mg/l

EbC50 (biomass): 22 mg/l

ErC50 (growth rate): 410 mg/l.

For the purposes of chemical safety assessment and classification the results based on growth rate are the key values.
