Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The structure contains a single nitro group that is an indicator for the potential to act as an oxidiser. However, the presence of nitro groups in aromatic compounds retards electrophilic aromatic substitution and facilitates nucelophilic aromatic substitution. As such, and given the derived oxygen balance for the substance, it is proposed that the molecule contains insufficient oxygen to act as an oxidiser.

Description of key information

The structure contains a single nitro group that is an indicator for the potential to act as an oxidiser. However, the presence of nitro groups in aromatic compounds retards electrophilic aromatic substitution and facilitates nucelophilic aromatic substitution. As such, and given the derived oxygen balance for the substance, it is proposed that the molecule contains insufficient oxygen to act as an oxidiser.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to oxidising properties.
