Description of key information

4-Amino-m-cresol started melting and became dark for a possible decomposition at 172°C. The sample was completely dark and decomposed at 178-180°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
172 °C

Additional information

The boiling point of 4-Amino-m-cresol was evaluated by following OECD guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range).

An aliquot of the dry sample was put into capillary tube, fused at one end, so that the filling level was approx. 3 mm after being tightly packed. The filled capillary tube was placed in the bath and heated under stirring so that the temperature increase was approx. 3°C/min. At about 10°C below the expected melting temperature, the rate of the temperature was adjusted to a maximum of 1°C/min. The initial and final melting temperatures were determined and recorded.
