Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non explosive

Additional information

According to the REACH Regulation (EC n. 1907/2006) Annex VII, Column 2 which says, "The study does not need to be conducted if:

- the organic substance or a homogenous mixture of organic substances doesn't contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties and the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500 °C."

In the thermal investigation of the test substance, it shows a decomposition energy below the threshold set out in the REACH Regulation, therefore the substance is exempt from testing for explosiveness.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the definition set out in the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) an explosive substance or mixture is a solid or liquid substance or mixture of substances which is in itself capable by chemical reaction of producing gas at such a temperature and pressure and at such a speed as to cause damage to the surroundings. Pyrotechnic substances are included even when they do not evolve gases. Since the substance doesn't have groups associated to explosive properties and an exothermic decomposition energy less than 500 J/g and an onset of exothermic decomposition below 500 °C the test was not conducted and the substance is considered as not explosive.
