Endpoint:
explosiveness
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
GLP compliance:
no
Parameter:
thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: limiting diameter (mm)
Number of fragments:
0
Remarks on result:
not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
Parameter:
sensitiveness to impact: impact energy (J)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to impact using an impact energy of 40 J
Parameter:
sensitiveness to friction: friction load (N)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to friction using a friction load of 360 N

Thermal sensitivity (effect of a flame) Tests with the 6.0 mm diameter orifice plate on the Centella Asiatica Dried Extract sample are described below:

- widening of the flame from around 38 seconds, with white smokes and spurts (start of the culmination phase;

- end of the culmination phase at around 370 seconds;

- end of the of any event after around 600 seconds.

Tests with the 2.0 mm diameter orifice plate on the Centella Asiatica Dried Extract sample gave the same results described above except for a more intense flame. No one of the six tests performed (three with the 6.0 mm orifice plate and three with the 2.0 orefice plate) produced the fragmentation of the steel tube containing the Centella Asiatica Dried Extract sample.

Mechanical sensitivity (shock) Explosions did not occur (bursting into flame and/ or a report is equivalent to explosion) in anyone of the six tests performed with impact energy of 40 J on a sample of Centella Asiatica Dried Extract. Then the sample of Centella Asiatica Dried Extract resulted not sensitive to shocking.

Mechanical sensitivity (friction) Explosions did not occur (crepitation and/or a report or bursting into flame are equivalent to explosion) in anyone of the six tests performed with whit a loading of 360 N on a sample of Centella Asiatica Dried Extract.

Then the Centella Asiatica Dried Extract resulted not explosive.

Interpretation of results:
non explosive
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
Centella Asiatica Dried Extract resulted not explosive.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive
