Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Version / remarks:

yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
test material received as small solid droplets, diamter approximately 3-4 mm
Key result
Water solubility:
45.99 µg/L
Conc. based on:
element
Remarks:
Ga
Loading of aqueous phase:
500 mg/L
Incubation duration:
>= 36 - <= 38 d
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 5.4 - <= 6
Remarks on result:
other: Result is mean solubility for 2 replicates as measured on day 36, 37 and 38. Standard deviation of solubility: 1.08 µg Ga/L
Details on results:
A tendency of increasing dissolved gallium concentrations was not observed after day 36 until day 38, and dissolved Ga concentrations in respective samples did not differ by more than 15 % indicating equilibrium conditions. Moreover, during the test until day 16 the measured gallium concentrations in vessel 1 compared to vessel 2 clearly differ from each other. This might be due to small differences in the Ga droplet surfaces. After day 36 the concentrations in vessel 1 and vessel 2 converged and were quantified to be in the same range.
Conclusions:
The mean dissolved Ga concentration at equilibrium is 46 µg Ga/L.

Description of key information

flask method according to OECD 105 guideline. Under the conditions of this test (loadings 500 g test item/L in two replicate vessels), a solubility equilibrium was observed starting on day 36 and the test was determined on day 38.The mean dissolved gallium concentration at 20.0 ± 1.0°C as measured on day 36, 37 and 38 amounts to 45.99 ± 1.08 µg Ga/L (separated by filtration from undissolved test item). The pH of solutions containing the test item and in method blanks were in the range of 5.4 – 6.0.
