Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
December 15, 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263, sheet 1
Version / remarks:
1990
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Preliminary Test

The test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes.

Main Test

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008
Conclusions:
Non-flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability test was carried out according to the Recommendations on the Transport of dangerous goods: Manual of Tests and Criteria, 6th edition, New York and Geneva, 2015: Class 4, Division 4.1: Readily Combustible Solids, Test N.1 and VDI  2263, sheet 1 (1990).

In the preliminary test, the test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minute. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Conclusion

The test item is considered non-flammable.

Description of key information

Non flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids) and VDI  2263, sheet 1

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, 2.7 section, flammable solids, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2.2 mm/s.

In the preliminary flammability test performed, Acid Violet 048 did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minute. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

In conclusion, the Acid Violet 048 111 does not meet the criteria to be classified as flammable, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
