Conclusion on classification

Based on a 48-hour EC50 value and a 72-hour ErC50 value of < 1 mg/L, which were calculated from OECD guideline studies with the test item vinylbenzyl chloride on acute aquatic toxicity in crustaceae (Daphnia sp.) and green alga (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) respectively and taking into account that the substance is not readily biodegradable, it is proposed that the test substance has to be classified according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as very hazardous to the aquatic environment (Category Acute 1 (H400) and Chronic 1 (H410)).
