Description of key information

EC10 (30 min) > 1000 mg/L (nominal, ISO 8192) based on read across from CAS 109-89-7

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Experimental data on the toxicity of Diethylammonium chloride (CAS 660-68-4) towards microorganisms are not available. Therefore appropriate read across data from the analogue substance N-ethylethanamine (CAS 109-89-7) were used for the environmental assessment.

The available study examines the toxicity of the read across substance N-ethylethanamine (CAS 109-89-7) to activated sludge microorganisms and was performed according to ISO guidance 8192. Activated sludge from a domestic sewage treatment plant was exposed to nominal concentrations of 100 and 1000 mg test item/L. After an exposure time of 30 min no inhibition of the respiration was recorded, resulting into an EC10 of > 1000 mg/L.

Furthermore N-ethylethanamine (CAS 109-89-7) was found to be readily biodegradable (OECD 301 C), which provides additional evidence, that the substance is not harmful to microorganisms.

Based on the results of the analogue substance, Diethylammonium chloride (CAS 660-68-4) is not considered to be toxic to microorganisms.
