Toxicity to terrestrial plants
Administrative data

Description of key information
4 study reports provide a weight of evidence argument. All studies appear to be of similar quality with method details not fully reported.
As such the lowest values are selected as the key values for the CSA covering EC100 for short term and LOEC for long term.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Short-term EC50 or LC50 for terrestrial plants:
- 0.33 mg/kg soil dw
- Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for terrestrial plants:
- 0.7 mg/kg soil dw
Additional information
Toxicity of TEL to terrestrial plants has been widely studied and reported. For this end point 4 study reports are used for a weight of evidence argument. All reports show that TEL effect plants at low levels
Siegel et al. (1971) reports a 60-h EC100 value of 4.5 mg Pb/L for defoliation effect.
Gryzbek and Kohlmunzer (1980) reports a LOEC value of 0.21 mg Pb/kg soil ww for genetic effects.
Diehl et al. (1983) reports an EC100 value for germination effects of 70 mg Pb/kg soil wet wt with grain yields reduced to 10% at levels above 7 mg Pb/kg soil wet wt.
Radecki et al. (1989) reports EC100 value of around 10 mg Pb/kg soil wet wt for growth effects at the cell level.
Report | Effect | Report Value | Value as TEL |
Siegel | EC100 | 4.5 mg Pb/l | 7 mg/kg |
Gryzbek | LOEC | 0.21 mg Pb/l | 0.33 mg/kg |
Diehl | EC100 | 70 mg Pb/kg | 109 mg/kg |
Radecki | LOEC | 7 mg Pb/l | 11 mg/kg |
All studies appear to be of similar quality with method details not fully reported. As such the lowest values are selected as the key values for the CSA covering EC100 for short term and LOEC for long term.
