First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

After inhalation:
Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest.
In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial respiration.
Fainting persons should be laid down and carried on their side with sufficient stability.
Seek medical advice.

After skin contact:
Gently wash with plenty of soap and water.
If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

Following eye contact:
In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Continue rinsing for al least 15 min.

After ingestion:
Do NOT induce vomiting.
Rinse mouth immediately and drink large quantities of water.
Seek medical advice.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps.

Most important syptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

- Acute: Picoline Gamma is corrosive to skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Vapours may irritate the respiratory tract.
Picoline Gamma is readily absorbed through the skin and is considered to be considered orally and dermally toxic.
Prolonged exposure (e.g. from saturated clothing) may cause skin burns and/or systemic intoxication.
Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, nausea, nervousness, weakness, narcosis
include headache, dizziness, nausea, nervousness, weakness, narcosis, insomnia, loss of appetite and possibly loss of consciousness.
Symptoms observed after ingestion or inhalation overexposures are expected to be essentially the same as those observed after ingestion or
ingestion or inhalation overexposures are expected to be essentially the same as those listed above.
Gamma picoline is a corrosive, so damage to the mouth and throat is a possibility if large amounts are ingested.
throat is a possibility if large quantities are ingested.
Ingestion is unlikely to be a primary route of exposure.
- Late Effects: Due to the corrosive nature of this material, burns are likely to occur.
Permanent contact with contaminated clothing may cause burns to appear after a prolonged period of exposure.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:
Carbon dioxide (CO2).
Water spray.
Alcohol resistant foam.
Extinguishing powder.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Fire or excessive heat may produce hazardous decomposition products:
Gas/vapours, toxic.
Cyanide
Azo oxides (NOx)
Carbon monoxide.
Serious risk of explosion in vapour form (within flammability limits) when exposed to heat, flame or static discharge.

Advice for fire-fighters

Wear full chemical protective clothing.

In case of fire: wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Keep unprotected people away and stay on the upwind side.
Wear personal protection equipment.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes
Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Leather shoes that have been saturated should be discarded.

Environmental precautions

Do not empty into drains or the aquatic environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Provide adequate ventilation
Large spills: dike and pump into appropriate containers for disposal.
Use inert absorbent material (sand, vermiculite, diatomaceous earth, Kieselguhr, etc.) to absorb spilled product.
Treat the assimilated material according to the section on waste disposal.
Use appropriate container to avoid environmental contamination

Reference to other sections

See protective measures under point 7, 8 and 13.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Safety measures for handling chemicals must be observed.
Provide adequate ventilation
Evitar la formación de aerosoles.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Wash hands before breaks and immediatley after using the product.
Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Protect containers from physical damage.
Use personal protective equipment as required.
 Fire and explosion prevention:
Take measures against electrostatic charges.
Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces.-No smoking

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements with regard to storage and containers:
Keep in cool, well-ventilated place away from:
Strong acid
Oxidising agent
May cause some forms of plastics and rubbers to deteriorate.
Additional information on storage conditions:
Keep container tightly closed
Storage class: Storage of flammable liquids

Specific end use
