Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

No mortality was observed in fishes of the control group or test item group at a concentration of 100 mg/L. The 96 -h NOEC was determined to be 100 mg/L and the LC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/L, based on nominal test concentration.

Short-term toxicity to invertebrates

In an acute immobilisation study with Daphnia magna according to OECD guideline 202 Solubilized Sulphur Black 1 liquid (containing 16% dystuff) was tested. No immobilization or any abnormal behavior of the test animals was observed at the limit concentration of 100 mg test item/L. The 48 -h NOEC was determined to be 100 mg/L and the 48 -h LOEC value was determined to be > 100 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The test item is a dye which stains the water and makes the performance of an algae toxicity study technically impossible. Thus, the study does not need to be performed according to REACH Regulation Annex XI, section 2.

Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae

The influence of the test item Solubilised Sulphur Black 1 on the growth of the freshwater aquatic plant Lemna gibba (duckweed) was investigated in a 7‑day static test, based on the OECD Guideline No. 221 “Lemna sp. Growth Inhibition Test” (2006) and the Commission Regulation (EC) No. 761/2009, C.26, with nominal concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg test item/L. ErC50 and NOEC (growth rate based on frond number) were determined to be >100 mg/L and 100 mg/L, respectively.

Toxicity to microorganism

In a study according to OECD 209 with activated sludge the test item had no influence on the specific respiration rates up to 1000 mg/L. The EC50 (3h) was determined to be > 1000 mg/L and the NOEC (3h) = 1000 mg/L
