Description of key information

The test material’s skin irritation/corrosion potential was tested in a study in rabbits (BASF SE; 1981). The substance was applied as a 50% aqueous solution to rabbit skin for 24 hours under occlusive coverage. After that, the substance was rinsed and skin reactions observed over 8 days.

The maximum erythema and edema scores at the 24 h, 48 h or 72 h readings did not exceed 1.0. The mean scores were lower. All findings were completely reversible within 8 days.

The test material's eye irritation potential was tested in a study in rabbits (LPT, 1979): The substance was applied to the inner surface of the lower eyelid of the right eye of 6 rabbist at a concentration of 95.3% in olive oil. The other, untreated eye served as a control. No signs of irritation were observed after 24, 48 or 72 hours after instillation.
