1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
ring method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
IR5878 Technical grade
98.56% pure
Batch number G 009/02
white powder
stored at room temperature in the dark
Received 23 July 2002
Key result
Surface tension:
ca. 71.4 mN/m
Temp.:
22 °C
Conc.:
0.038 g/L
Conclusions:
Surface tension of IR5878 (orthosulfamuron) is 71.4 mN/m at 22°C (3.77x10-2 g/L solution). Substances having a surface tension below 60mN/m are regarded as being surface-active, the test material is therefore not considered to be a surface active material.
Executive summary:

Surface tension of IR5878 (orthosulfamuron) was determined as 71.4 mN/m at 22°C (3.77x10-2 g/L solution) using a ring method based on ISO 304, Method A5 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC which is reference in Council Directive 91/414/EEC, Annex II as amended in Commission Directive 94/37/EC, Annex I, 2.1.4 and Method 115 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995. The test material is considered not to be a surface active material.

Description of key information

Surface tension of IR5878 (orthosulfamuron) is 71.4 mN/m at 22°C (3.77x10-2 g/L solution). Substances having a surface tension below 60mN/m are regarded as being surface-active, the test material is therefore not considered to be a surface active material.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
71.4
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
