There are no data describing the long-term toxicity of the registered substance to terrestrial plants. However, data are read-across from the analogue substance, phenyl silsesquioxanes (EC 939-487-8), for toxicity to macroorganisms except arthropods and soil microorganisms. No effects were observed in these tests. No reliable acute or chronic aquatic toxicity studies are available with the registration substance, however, acute and chronic aquatic toxicity data are available with phenyl silsesquioxanes. The data show no acute or chronic effects at the limit of solubility of the substance. Above a log Kowof 6.0 short-term toxicity effects are not expected to occur, because the very limited aqueous solubility prevents toxic concentrations being achieved in exposure media. Similarly, above log Kowof 8, long-term toxicity effects are not expected; the registration substance has a log Kowof 9.0, hence no acute or chronic effects would be expected at the limit of solubility of the substance.

Since the aquatic and terrestrial data available for phenyl silsesquioxanes all show no effects at the highest concentrations tested, in accordance with ECHA guidance, these tests are adequate for terrestrial risk characterisation and no further terrestrial toxicity tests are required (refer to CSR Section 7.2 (IUCLID Section 6.3) Terrestrial toxicity EPS for more information). Therefore, the requirement for an OECD TG 208 study is waived.
