Additional information

Metal acetates are substances consisting of a metal and acetic acid. Based on the solubility of barium di(acetate) in water (792 g barium di(acetate)/L), a complete dissociation of barium di(acetate) resulting in barium and acetate ions may be assumed under environmental conditions.

No terrestrial bioaccumulation data for acetate could be identified. Kuperman et al (2006) reported reliable NOEC-values for barium (added as barium nitrate) for two different soil macro-organisms (E. fetida, E. crypticus). The derived effect values were based on ecological relevant endpoints (mortality and reproduction). Reproduction was the most sensitive endpoint, and NOEC-values were 258 and 433 mg barium/kg soil dw for E. fetida and E. crypticus, respectively.

Based on the above, barium di(acetate) is expected to have a low potential to bioaccumlate in terrestrial organisms.
