Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
27 Sep 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Storage conditions. dry at ambient temperature (10 - 30 °C)
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Results
Preliminary Test
The test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes.

Main Test
In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Therefore, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Final Results
The test item could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes.

The test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The product has not to be classified as readily combustible solid in class 4.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.7): The product has not to be classified as flammable solid according to GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
other justification
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:

Description of key information

Not flammable (Preliminary test, UN Test N.1)

Not self-heating.

No pyrophoricity.

No flammability on contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of the substance was determined according to UN Test N.1.

The substance is not self-heating based on the Grewer oven test up to 410 °C.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

The substance did not ignite in a UN N.1 Test. The test item indicated no self-ignition at atmospheric pressure up to the maximum test temperature of 410 °C in the Grewer Oven test according to VDI 2263 Sheet 1. The safety margin of 80 K above the reference temperature for a volume of 1 L is fulfilled and therefore the substance is not self-heating. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
