- Details on results:
- The results obtained from testing show variability, during multiple tests. From the data obtained it is apparent that the test item exhibits time dependant solubility to some extent although the variable concentration observed at similar timepoints indicates that additional processes may have occurred during storage of the test item in water.
- Conclusions:
- The water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane was shown to depend on the time and initial loading of substance in water. No equilibrium could be reached during the study.
- Executive summary:
A water solubility testing was performed on Decyltrimethoxysilane in accordance with the OECD Testing Guideline 105.
The shake flask method was used.
Concentrations of dissolved test substance in water were determined by GC-MS.
An initial study was performed with a loading of 5% Decyltrimethoxysilane in water and measurements on Days 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Additional testing was performed with loadings of 5% and 12% Decyltrimethoxysilane in water and measurements on Days 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10.
Results showed that water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane depending on time and loading. No equilibrium could be reached during the study. With a loading of 5%, water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane ranged between < 0.01 and 266.08 mg/L between Days 1 and 10. With a loading of 12.5%, water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane ranged between 2.32 and 30.11 mg/L between Days 5 and 10.

- Conclusions:
- An expert assessment was performed based on experimental data on the water solubility of the substance, and its chemical structure and reactivity. It concluded that the water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane is likely to be <13 mg/L.
- Executive summary:
An expert assessment was performed based on experimental data on the water solubility of the substance, and itschemical structure and reactivity. During the water solubility study performed on the substance, the amount of Decyltrimethoxysilane detected in water was low but no equilibration between the water and the substance could be achieved, even after 10 days of stirring. This is thought to be due to the substance hydrolysing and, in undergoing this process, releasing methanol, which promotes solubility in the closed system used in the study. Therefore, an exact experimental value for water solubility of decyltrimethoxysilane could not be reliably determined. Such a localised build-up of methanol in the environment or in the body is unlikely and therefore water solubility is expected to be very low under these circumstances. Based on a combination of EPI Suite predictions and water solubility results, the water solubility of Decyltrimethoxysilane is likely to be <13 mg/L.

Description of key information
