Description of key information

The substance is abiotically stable under environmentally relevant conditions. Its hydrolysis DT-50 estimate is 66 years at pH 7 and 25°C. QSAR BIOWIN v4.10 is negative, i.e. the substance is considered not readily biodegradable. The KOC value of the substance is 66.67 L/kg and the corresponding log KOC value is 1.824. This means that the substance does not adsorb to soils and sediments according to FAO mobility classification, and that hence the substance is considered mobile.

The above hazard assessment is not relevant for the Environmental Risk Assessment, for the following reasons:

Manufacturing and processing/formulation of the substance takes place under strictly controlled conditions, at industrial sites. Direct emission to water and soil is hence excluded. Direct emission to air is excluded since waste air from processing is combusted. Gas from local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems is passed through appropriate filters or scrubbers. Indirect emission to water and soil via waste water is excluded, since manufacturing and processing/formulation does not yield aqueous residues which could enter the industrial STPs. Any cleaning is with organic solvents, which will be combusted.

The substance is exclusively used at industrial sites as a processing aid (hardener or accelerator) during the manufacturing of articles or coatings. As described for manufacturing and processing/formulation, neither direct nor indirect exposure to the environment will take place for the reasons given above.

During the manufacturing of articles or coatings, the substance is chemically bond into the matrix of the article or coating. Hence, the coatings/articles do not contain the substance itself. Hence, there is no release of substance from coatings/articles neither directly nor via residues produced during coating/article processing e.g. by using abrasive techniques.

In conclusion, the substance will not reach STPs and the environment throughout its life cycle. Hence an environmental risk assessment is not necessary.
