The vapours of the substance were tested in the contration range 1.8 - 53 % v/v.


53% v/v represents the maximum concentration achievable under the test conditions.

The substance is a liquid therefore the classification for flammability is based on the flash point value. This study is therefore not suitable for classification purposes but it informs on the possibility that the vapors of the substance generate an explosive atmosphere at 65°C.
Conclusions:
The vapors of the substance had no flammable range in air at the temperature of 65°C and atmospheric pressure.
Executive summary:




The determination of the explosion limits of the vapours in air was conducted according to the test method DIN EN 1839:2017. The work was accreditated under ISO 17025.


The test was conducted in a 5 L sphere at the temperature of approx. 65°C. The tests were carried out in air. A permanent spark with an ignition energy of approx. 10 Joule was used as ignition source. The vapour concentrations were varied between approx. 2 % v/v and up to the maximum concentration of the product at test temperature.


According to the results the substance vapors have no flammable range in air at the temperature of 65°C and atmospheric pressure.

SOLVENT N1 is a Not Flammable Liquid. Moreover it is not pyrophoric, not self-reactive and it does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

As the substance is a liquid, the assessment of the hazardous properties for flammability is based on the flash point value. No flash-point was observed up to the boiling temperature (BP = 47.7 °C) of the substance and therefore SOLVENT N1 does not meet the GHS classifcation criteria for Flammability of Liquid.


According to the Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria Version 5.0 – July 2017, for halogenated compounds which do not have flash point up to 60 °C the explosion limits of vapours in air need to be determined in order to decide whether labelling with EUH018, EUH209 or EUH209A need to be applied. The experimental determination conducted at the temperature of 65°C and atmospheric pressure showed that the SOLVENT N1 vapors have no flammable range under the conditions on the test therefore the EUH labelling is not required.


Moreover the molecular structure of the test substance does not contain groups that indicate potential self-reactivity, reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties and practical experience in handling the substance confirms the lack of these properties. Based on this the substance has not to be classified either as "substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases", "self-reactive substance" or as "pyrophoric substance".
