- Executive summary:
The sensitiveness of a test item to the effect of intense heat under high confinement was determined according the
United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Manual of Tests and Criteria - Sixth revised edition (2015) Series 1 type (b) Test 1 (b) (Part I, Section 11.5.1) EC No. 1272/2008 (CLP) and ubder GLP compliance.
In the Assay with orifice plate of 20.0 mm and in series with orifices plates of 12.0 - 8.0 - 5.0 - 3.0 - 2.0 - 1.5 - 1.0 m, the results "O" Tube unchanged were observed after 5 min for each nozzle plate opening.
Therefore the result was considered “negative” and the substance has shown no effecton heating under confinement as the limiting diameter was less than 1.0 mm.
- Endpoint:
- explosive properties of explosives
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:

- Study period:
- From July 2016 to May 2017
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- no guideline followed
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The objective of the test is to determine the behaviour of the test item during a heating procedure within a nitrogen atmosphere and at the atmospheric pressure using the Differential Scanning Calorimetry method (DSC). This thermodynamic information allows determining if the test item gives exothermic reactions upon heating and thus a more complete test on explosive properties is relevant.
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL

- Result:
- result is considered "-" (negative)
- Remarks on result:
- other: Neither endothermic nor exothermic peak was observed up to 600 °C under the experimental conditions used.
- Interpretation of results:
- other: This thermodynamic information allows knowing that the test item shall not be classified as explosive
- Conclusions:
- In the temperature range used, no exothermic reaction was observed.
- Executive summary:
In the temperature range used, no exothermic reaction was observed.

- the result “decomposition or “no reaction” was observed at the impact energies of 10 J
- then the result “decomposition or “no reaction” was observed int the test series at stepwise increased impact energies up to 50 J (15-20-25-30-35-40-50 J)
- Then the result “decomposition or “no reaction” was observed in the repeated 6 times series of 50 J.
Therefore, The result of the test was “negative”,
As a results, The limiting diameter of a substance is the largest diameter of the orifice at which the result “explosion” was obtained. If no “explosion” was obtained with a diameter of 1.0 mm, the limiting diameter was recorded as being less than 1.0 mm.
- In the Assay with orifice plate of 20.0 mm: the result "O" Tube unchanged was observed after 5 min.
- In the series with orifices plates of 12.0 - 8.0 - 5.0 - 3.0 - 2.0 - 1.5 - 1.0 mm, the results "O" Tube unchanged were observed after 5 min for each nozzle plate opening.
Neither endothermic nor exothermic peak was observed up to 600 °C under the experimental conditions used.
Description of key information
Three reliable studies performed according to guidelines from the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Good, Manual of Tests and Criteria, test series 1 and 3 were performed. The tests were GLP compliant.
In the Koenen test the substance has shown no effect on intense heating under high confinement as the limiting diameter was less than 1.0 mm.
In the Bam Fallhammer test the substance has shown no effect to the shock of a falling hammer on a steel anvil.
A test using the Differential Scanning Calorimetry method (DSC) was performed in order to determined the behaviour of the test item during a heating procedure within a nitrogen atmosphere and at the atmospheric pressure. In this test, in the temperature range used, no exothermic reaction was observed.
Basing on the results on the tests, the substance is not be classified as explosive.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Explosiveness:
- non explosive
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
Basing on the negative results of the 3 reliable tests the test item is not classified for explosive properties, according to EU GHS (CLP) criteria.
