Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information:

Degradation:

Hydrolysis: < 1 min at pH 4-9 and 1.5 °C (OECD 111)

Biodegradation: not readily biodegradable (1% after 28 d and 0% after 60 d, OECD 310)

Bioaccumulation:

Trichloro(4-methylphenyl)silane: not relevant due to fast hydrolysis

Silanol hydrolysis product (4-methylphenyl)silanetriol:

·        Log Kow = -0.6 (QSAR)

·        BCF = 0.91 – 3.16 L/Kg (QSAR, EPI Suite v4.1, BCFBAF models)

Aquatic acute toxicity

Aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 202, Daphnia magna) based on read across from CAS 98-13-5

Algae/aquatic plant: ErC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 201, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) based on read across from CAS 98-13-5

Aquatic chronic toxicity

Fish: no data available

Aquatic invertebrates: no data available

Algae/aquatic plant: NOErC (72 h) ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 201, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) based on read across from CAS 98-13-5

Classification according to CLP

Trichloro(4-methylphenyl)silane (CAS 701-35-9) hydrolysis vigorously to (4-methylphenyl)silanetriol and hydrochloric acid. The silanol hydrolysis product is not considered to be rapidly degradable and the calculated BCF is clearly < 500 L/kg. Acute toxicity data are available for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae) while chronic data are available for algae. No acute or chronic hazard was identified. Therefore trichloro(4-methylphenyl)silane (CAS 701-35-9) is not classified and labeled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
