The first DSC measurement was performed until 240 °C. Two endothermal peaks were determined, a major peak with maximum at 60 °C (extrapolated onset temperature: 50 °C) and a minor peak with maximum at 144 °C (extrapolated onset temperature: 136 °C). After 240 °C the sample was completely melted. A second test was performed with the same parameters but only until 70 °C. The sample shows no difference in appearance (no visible melting). Eventually 2 melting temperatures can be detected due to mixture.

The first endothermal peak exhibits an untypical shape with several secondary, small peak maxima at ca. 25, 40 and 46 °C (maybe indicating thermal conversions).

Conclusions:
No definite melting temperature of Di-C14-18 alkyldimethyl ammonium methosulfate was detected by DSC method. Two endothermal peaks were determined, a major peak with maximum at 60 °C (extrapolated onset temperature: 50°C) and a minor peak with maximum at 144°C (extrapolated onset temperature: 136°C). After 240°C the sample was completely melted.
Executive summary:

In the present test according to OECD test guideline 102 (adopted 27 July, 1995) and EU test method A.1, Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 (30 May, 2008), the melting point of Di-C14 -18 alkyldimethyl ammonium methosulfate was measured with differential scanning calorimetry.

The difference in the temperatures of the test item and a reference substance was recorded and applied a calibration function converted to a heat flow signal. When the sample underwent a transition involving a change in enthalpy (endothermic on melting or boiling), that change was indicated by a departure from the base line of the heat flow record.

A definite melting temperature of Di-C14-18 alkyldimethyl ammonium methosulfate cannot be unambiguously detected by DSC method. Instead, two endothermal peaks were determined, a major peak with maximum at 60°C (extrapolated onset temperature: 50°C) and a minor peak with maximum at 144°C (extrapolated onset temperature: 136°C). After 240°C the sample was completely melted.
