Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Justification for type of information:
The hypothesis for a read-across approach to data from TMPTA is the similarity of the chemical structures. Both the target substance (T) and TMPTA are triacryaltes.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 8192 (Water quality - Test for inhibition of oxygen consumption by activated sludge for carbonaceous and ammonium oxidation)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: OECD 301C
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Only specified for the study following the OECD 301C Guideline
Key result
Duration:
30 min
Dose descriptor:
other: EC20
Effect conc.:
625 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
other: TMPTA
Basis for effect:
inhibition of total respiration
Remarks:
ISO 8192
Conclusions:
Trimethylolpropantriacrylate was tested for respiratory sludge inhibition according to guideline ISO/DIS 8192 Part B. The inoculum was derived from the local municipal STP Lambsheim. The EC20 was determined to be after 30 min EC20 = 625 mg/l.

The target is primarily a mixture of trimethylolpropantriacrylate and dimethylolpropantriacrylate, and these two acrylates are assessed to show the same level of environmental toxicity to aquatic organism - the triacrylate compound being only very slightly more toxic than the diacrylate (QSAR calculations confirm this). Therefore, it is asssessed valid to set to toxicity to microorganism of a mixture of trimethylolpropantriacrylate and dimethylolpropantriacrylate to the toxicity of trimethylolpropantriacrylate.

Based on the test result an inhibition of the respiration and biodegradation activities of mircroorganisms within an STP is not expected.
