Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Laser diffraction data for copper oxide show the following ranges of volume-rated particle size distributions: D(v,0.1) 2.68 - 24.03 µm; D(v,0.5) 18.73 - 89.6 µm; D(v,0.9) 46.83 - 899.3 µm. The ranges of number-rated particle size distributions is as follows: D(n,0.1) 0.157 - 0.684 µm; D(n,0.5) 0.220 - 0.943 µm; D(n,0.9) 0.457 - 2.23 µm. None of the grades would fall under the category of nanomaterial (50% < 0.1 µm, based on particle number).

Additional information

Three grades of copper oxide with the following volume-rated and number-rated particle size distributions:

Regular Grade Copper Oxide

Volume-rated distribution: D(v,0.1) 24.03 µm; D(v,0.5) 89.6 µm; D(v,0.9) 899.3 µm.

Number-rated distribution: D(n,0.1) 0.684 µm; D(n,0.5) 0.943 µm; D(n,0.1) 2.23 µm.

Milled Grade Copper Oxide

Volume-rated distribution: D(v,0.1) 8.55 µm; D(v,0.5) 39.0 µm; D(v,0.9) 350.2 µm.

Number-rated distribution: D(n,0.1) 0.277 µm; D(n,0.5) 0.381 µm; D(n,0.1) 0.767µm.

Fine Grade Copper Oxide

Volume-rated distribution: D(v,0.1) 2.68 µm; D(v,0.5) 18.73 µm; D(v,0.9) 46.83 µm.

Number-rated distribution: D(n,0.1) 0.157 µm; D(n,0.5) 0.220 µm; D(n,0.1) 0.457 µm.

Based on the results from the number distributions, none of the tested grades would fall under the category of nanomaterial (50% < 0.1 µm, based on particle number).

Ranges for the volume-based distributions across all grades were as follows: D(v,0.1) 2.68 - 24.03 µm; D(v,0.5) 18.73 - 89.6 µm; D(v,0.9) 46.83 - 899.3 µm.

Ranges for the number-based distributions across all grades were as follows: D(n,0.1) 0.157 - 0.684 µm; D(n,0.5) 0.220 - 0.943 µm; D(n,0.9) 0.457 - 2.23 µm.
