TGA EXPERIMENT (PRELIMINARY TEST)

Significant decrease of weight from 100°C. 25% weight loss at 118°C and 70% weight loss at 199°C.

After the experiment, a brown molten residu remained in the sample container (original colour: colourless). The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item

 

DSC EXPERIMENT 1

During cooling, an exothermic peak between -20°C and -40°C was found. The effect was obtained due to crystallization of the test item. During heating an endothermic peak was observed between -50°C and 0°C followed by an endothermic effect starting at 75°C. The extrapolated onset temperature of the first peak was -16.781°C. The endothermic effect was most likely obtained due to melting of the test item. Based on observations made during the preliminary test the second effect was due to reaction and/or decomposition of the test substance. After the experiment, the test item was unchanged in the sample container. DSC curve recorded during heating: see Illustration

DSC EXPERIMENT 2

Similar results as in Experiment 1 were obtained. The extrapolated onset of the melting peak was -16.338°C. After the experiment, the test item was unchanged in the sample container.

DATA HANDLING

The melting/freezing temperature was determined as themean extrapolated onset temperature of Experiment 1 (-16.781°C) and Experiment 2 (-16.338°C).

 

Conclusions:
The melting/freezing temperature of the substance was determined to be -16.6°C.

Executive summary:

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) experiments were performed in a GLP study according to EC A.1, OECD 102 and OPPTS 830.7200.

The melting/freezing temperature of the substance was determined in duplicate obtaining a mean value of -16.6°C.

During heating the reaction and/or decomposition of the substance started at 75°C.
