Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods
Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- no guideline followed
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Retention of the elements was studied using a batch equilibration method. Samples of soil were mixed with solution, shaken, filetered and amounts of each element retained by the spoil were calculated.
- GLP compliance:
- no

Solids-water partitioning coefficient of 158.5 l/kg (log value 2.2).
This value was determined. this value was used in the RA Zinc because it is based on the part of the metals that can actually exchange and is to be assumed in equilibrium with the water phase.Furthermore, experimental values were considered more reliable than field-based , in the RA.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- Tests of good quality and considered useful for assessing the effect on the endpoint. Result used in the RA zinc (ECB 2008)
- Executive summary:
A solids-water partitioning coefficient of 2.2 (log value) was determined experimentally on 11 American soils. This value was used in the RA Zinc because it is based on the part of the metals that can actually exchange and is to be assumed in equilibrium with the water phase.Furthermore, experimental values were considered more reliable than field-based, in the RA.
