- Decomposition of the test substance was observed using a Capillary tube in a metal block at temperatures at 114.5°C at a heating rate of 1°C per minute. Melting of the test substance was not observed below the temperature at which decomposition started. Based on this, the test substance has no melting temperature.
- Executive summary:
On heating, TGS starts to decompose before its melting point. The temperature at which three grades of TGS convert from a decomposing solid phase to a decomposing liquid phase has been measured. The melting points of production grade the test substance, when heated from 10°C below their melting points at an approximate average rate of heating of 1°C per minute and corrected using National Physical Laboratory Chemical Reference Materials for the calibration of melting point apparatus are: 114.5 °C; at an approximate average rate of heating of 5°C per minute and the appropriate correction: 125.5 °C.

The melting point of the test substance was determined similar to OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals no. 102: "Melting Point / Melting Range" (July 27, 1995).
The decomposition temperature was determined to be 114.5°C.
